Once a draft is close, a broad request such as “make it better” can undo the parts that already work. A useful revision names the defect, the desired result, and the elements that must stay fixed. The examples here use the open-source Claude Motion toolkit, with notes for this site’s editable local projects.
Save a baseline and identify the real source
Keep the current video, source project, approved copy, and asset files together before editing. Give the next output a different filename so you can compare both versions. Identify the composition and the project that generated it; a flattened MP4 is not the same as editable scenes. In the toolkit, the agent works on Remotion source and its timing data. This site instead provides editable HTML, project data, and local HyperFrames instructions. Start from the corresponding source format rather than asking one renderer to interpret the other renderer’s files.
Describe the defect with time and location
Use the revision prompt below as an example of a timestamped request. Include a frame or timestamp when possible, plus the expected appearance. Avoid combining a layout repair with a new color scheme and rewritten copy in the same request. If the goal is subjective, propose two still-frame alternatives before spending time animating either one.
Between 5.8 and 6.4 seconds, the subtitle crosses the product card. Keep the card fixed; place the subtitle below it and finish its entrance before the reading hold. Preserve the wording, palette, logo, and all other scenes.Separate content, layout, and timing changes
For content, provide exact replacement text and state whether it affects one scene or every occurrence. For layout, name the element and its relationship to nearby objects. For timing, specify which event moves and what stays aligned with it. A half-second change at 30 fps is 15 frames. In Remotion, nested timing can be relative to a parent, so moving the outer scene can move its children as well. Ask the agent to check dependent audio cues, captions, and the total duration instead of editing a single number in isolation.
Preserve a short list of approved decisions
Use the prompt below to state the requested changes and preservation rules explicitly. If those constraints cannot all hold, resolve the conflict before rendering. Longer translated text may need a different layout rather than a shorter reading hold. For a local HTML project, also ask which generated files will be overwritten if you compose the project again, and save custom edits first.
Change the second headline and extend its reading hold. Preserve scene order, approved logo proportions, background color, first-scene timing, and final call to action. Keep total duration at 15 seconds; explain where time is reallocated.Compare the changed region and the whole export
Inspect frames immediately before, during, and after the revised interval. Then play the complete result to catch a new awkward pause, gap, or broken ending. Check that old copy is gone where requested and unchanged scenes still match the baseline. Render a final file from the current source; a screenshot of an intermediate preview does not prove the delivered MP4 contains the fix. Record what changed and which output was reviewed. Keep the earlier version until the new version passes the agreed checks.
Your next step
A precise edit is a small, testable change with explicit preservation rules. Accept it only after checking both the affected interval and the final exported story.
